Dark Matter Field Trip, 2006

On June 4, 2006, A.T.O.M. Science Club members attended a field trip at UC Berkeley’s physics building, Le Conte Hall, where dark matter specialists specially designed a tour and discussion for our club members. The science club members got to see the actual equipment researchers use to attempt to understand dark matter.

Tour guide Kyle Sunquist, a graduate student and dark matter specialist, reviewed with Madam Atom before the trip the information club members had been working on so he could tailor his talk for the club. This was an amazing opportunity for young science enthusiasts to get an inside view of what science is all about. It also helped them understand where their hard work in school might lead one day–perhaps to attending UC Berkeley and becoming a scientist!
